New home design, Jan Juc — SurfCoast Architecture
Designing new homes and renovations in Torquay, Anglesea, Aireys Inlet and Lorne
You've found your place on the Surf Coast. Let's design the home that goes with it.
SurfCoast Architecture is a Torquay-based practice designing beautiful, sustainable, and cost-effective homes across the Surf Coast Shire. Whether you're building new, extending, or transforming an existing house into something that finally works for your family, we bring 30 years of coastal design experience to every project.
“It was a pleasure working with Jeremy to create our home. He took the time to understand what we were looking for, and was a great communicator. It was a tricky block of land to work with but his design ideas were both creative and practical. Jeremy also went above and beyond to get us through the planning process. We couldn't be happier with the end result - our home is warm, functional and beautiful to live in. We highly recommend SurfCoast Architecture!”. 5 Star Google Review, Jan Juc
Why clients choose SurfCoast Architecture:
Local expertise. We've been designing on the Surf Coast since 1997 — we know the sites, the planning rules, and the coastal conditions better than anyone.
Direct access to your architect. Jeremy works personally on every project. No project managers, no juniors.
3D design from day one. We use 3D CAD throughout so you can see and understand your home before a single thing is built.
Value-first thinking. We design to your budget, not around it. Good architecture should pay for itself in liveability and resale value.
Free initial consultation. Every project starts with a no-obligation conversation about what's possible.
What this means for your project:
Creative problem-solving. Every Surf Coast site has constraints — slope, overlays, setbacks, vegetation. We find the design solution others miss.
A home that fits your life. We listen carefully to how you actually live before we put pen to paper. The result is a home designed around you, not a template.
Built for the coast. Sustainable design isn't a checkbox — it's how we reduce your energy bills, protect your home from coastal conditions, and respect the landscape you chose to live in.

Jeremy Ham — Design Philosophy
The Surf Coast is not just where I work. It's where I have visited since the 1970’s and lived, surfed, and raised my family since 1995. I choose to live here because of the coastal lifestyle: the beaches, the surf, the culture and the wonderful creative community.
I have built my practice, SurfCoast Architecture (formerly Funk Architects P/L) over a period of 20 years and completed a range of difficult and complex projects- in the bushland at Bells Beach, major renovations at Anglesea, within the tightly planned Aireys Inlet town centre and on the steep ocean-facing hills in Lorne.
In each project, I aim to be innovative in my approach to design, responsive to the site and its constraints and environmental in the minimisation of the impact on the planet. My point of difference is my responsiveness to my clients- I work overtime to deliver on my projects, communicate clearly and effectively and use the latest CAD technologies to enable clients to review the designs in 3D.
Good Surf Coast architecture, to my mind, does three things. It contributes positively to the landscape rather than imposing on it. It enables families to live more sustainably. And it is designed so specifically around the people who will inhabit it that it could not belong to anyone else or sit anywhere else.
What I offer my clients is not a style. It is a process of genuine inquiry — into their site, their brief, their life — and a commitment to finding the design that is most specifically right for them. That is the work I find most interesting. It is also, I believe, the work that endures.
